Lactation Latte Recipe with Green Tea

Sharing is caring!

This is a recipe for a lactation latte made with green tea. A lactation latte is a milk and tea drink mixed with lactation shake mix for a delicious way to boost your milk supply that can be enjoyed hot or cold. The lactation shake mix gives this drink added nutrients and also contains ingredients that can help make more breast milk.

As a breastfeeding Mama mornings can be tough. Rolling out of bed to the needs of a baby and kids can be overwhelming to say the least.

After a long night of feeding baby, you need something to get you going, but in a healthy way.

Something with less caffeine, less sugar and less additives.

While shakes and smoothies are great, sometimes you want something different.

This green tea lactation latte is:

  • dairy free
  • gluten free
  • refined sugar free

Are you a fan of green tea lattes from Starbucks? You will love this version just for breastfeeding Moms. It is super easy to make and because you are making this drink yourself, you can control the amount of sugar.

A green tea lactation latte is a great alternative to coffee, lactation teas, or energy drinks. It gives you a nice boost of calm energy while supplying you with nutrients to make more milk.

Green Tea Postpartum and Breastfeeding

Are you wondering if you can have green tea while breastfeeding, after delivery, or after a c section?

It is considered safe for nursing moms to drink up to 3 cups of green tea a day. Green tea generally contains 30 – 50 mg of caffeine per serving, which is much less than a cup of coffee.

It is generally recommended that breastfeeding Moms reduce caffeine intake to less than 300 mg per day.

Babies can be effected by too much caffeine, especially under 6 months old, so it’s important to be mindful and watch your baby for any adverse reactions.

There are many benefits of green tea after delivery:

  • Contains antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and reduce free radicals
  • boost brain function
  • increases fat burning
  • fights against diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes (source)

Lactation and weight loss protein powder

Lactation protein powder is added to give this latte a boost. This is going to help give you added protein and nutrients. Which translates into more energy and a better milk supply.

The demand for protein goes up while breastfeeding. But also eating more protein can help with weight loss and curb sugar craving postpartum (source).

This recipe uses the breastfeeding protein powder Milk Dust. It contains a special blend of herbs and vitamins that specifically boost breast milk including:

  • milk thistle
  • fenugreek
  • brewer’s yeast
  • red raspberry leaf
  • fennel seeds

It also contains spinach, spirulina and chlorella which gives this lactation drink a nice green color very similar to a matcha green tea latte.

It’s also great for getting your daily greens and boosting energy.

I also used it in this ultimate lactation smoothie!

Lactation Tea Recipe

This recipe is easy to make and requires only a few ingredients.

  • Green tea
  • Lactation protein powder – this one is really awesome!  Use the code BIRTHEATLOVE to get 10% off your first order!
  • Non dairy milk of your choice

Start by bringing water to a boil. I like to make this in a large Mason jar to make roughly a 24 oz drink, or a venti at Starbucks. You can use any large glass or mug that you have.

Fill you glass half way with hot water and steep the tea 3 minutes. The great thing about green tea is that it is ready pretty quickly so less waiting to drink.

After you remove the tea bag, add one scoop of lactation protein powder and mix.

Then fill the remainder of the glass with milk. I like to use almond milk, or the coconut almond milk blend for extra creaminess and added protein. Just remember to use nut milk to keep this dairy free.

Mix again and add ice at this point if you’d like a cold beverage.

No extra sweetener is needed, as the protein powder has a slight sweetness.

This lactation latte is a great way to start your day, or a refreshing treat that will help you boost your milk supply.
