After years of feeling deprived during the holidays, I started making simple swaps to create healthier desserts.
Here are a few tips for keeping your Thanksgiving desserts clean and healthy:
- Swap out the sugar – a simple way to make desserts healthier is to use honey, maple syrup, date fruit, stevia, or coconut sugar in place of white or brown sugar.
- Reduce the sugar – if you don’t swap out the type of sugar, you can simply reduce the amount of sugar by up to half to make it healthier. I’ve done this with numerous recipes and never had much of an issue.
- Use real food ingredients – recipes with real fruit and fresh ingredients can make a real difference in how healthy your dish comes out.
- Look for recipes that use gluten-free flour, almond flour, or coconut flour to help cut the carbs
